Choosing a programme in Finland
Finnish universities offer a wide range of bachelor’s and master’s programmes taught in English, alongside programmes in Finnish and Swedish. The national Studyinfo portal lists programmes from all universities and universities of applied sciences, so it is a good place to compare options before you read the details on each university’s own website. Look closely at the entry requirements, the language of instruction and the structure of the degree, as these can differ between programmes even within the same university.
Application periods and the online application
Applications to Finnish higher education are made online. Some programmes take part in a joint application, while others run separate admissions with their own application periods. Because dates and requirements can change from one year to the next, always check the current details on Studyinfo and on the website of the university you are applying to. Send your application in good time before the deadline so there is room to sort out any problems.
Documents and language skills
Most programmes ask for your previous degree certificates and transcripts of records, and many also require proof of your English language skills. Some universities need certified copies or documents sent directly by the institution that issued them, and the requirements can depend on the country where you completed your studies. Missing or incorrect documents are a common reason for an application not being considered, so read the instructions carefully.
