University of Eastern Finland (UEF) is one of the largest universities in Finland, and home to approximately 15,000 students and 2,800 members of staff. Our campuses are located in Joensuu, Kuopio and Savonlinna. UEF is a multidisciplinary university, which offers teaching in more than 100 major subjects. We have four faculties: the Philosophical Faculty, the Faculty of Science and Forestry, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies. Our key interdisciplinary research areas are built around four global challenges. The University of Helsinki is the oldest and largest university in Finland and provides teaching in all main fields of science, except economic and technical fields. The university is a research-intensive institution. Special emphasis is placed on new multidisciplinary approaches in basic research. Teaching at the University of Helsinki is closely linked to research, and according to an international evaluation is of a high European standard.
Natural sciences, human sciences, sport and health sciences as well as teacher education are the University of Jyväskylä’s areas of special expertise. The university offers a variety of international Master’s programmes and has systematically strengthened its research facilities e.g. by establishing multidisciplinary research centres.
Located in Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle, The University of Lapland is the northernmost university in Finland and in the European Union. One of the university’s strengths is research related to northern and Arctic issues focusing on the global climate and environmental change, sustainable development, indigenous peoples, and environmental law.
The University of Oulu is one of the largest universities in Finland. The fields of information technology and wireless communications, biotechnology and molecular medicine and northern and environmental issues have been defined as special research areas. The university cooperates closely with industry and commerce. Applied research and development work continuously produces pioneering inventions and innovations. Research projects are characteristically multidisciplinary.
The University of Tampere is a scientific community with a special commitment to the critical scrutiny of social phenomena and the formation of civic society, its economy, administration and culture, as well as public health, wellbeing and education. It is one of Finland’s biggest and most popular universities, with a modern and versatile infrastructure to support your studies.
Fields such as biotechnology, information technology, social sciences, cultural integration and the Baltic States are amongst the University of Turku’s strongest and most reputable areas of study. The starting point of the university’s operation is basic research which is increasingly involved in the development of practical applications in response to the needs of both society and business. The University of Vaasa is a multidisciplinary, business-oriented University offering degrees at all academic levels. It occupies one of Finland’s newest maritime campus areas on the shore of the beautiful archipelago and offers a modern study environment for its 5,000 students. The work of the University builds on internationality and regional interaction. The University of Vaasa offers diverse study options in English. The focus of teaching and research is on business studies, technology, administration, languages and communication. Åbo Akademi University is an internationally acknowledged research university, the only Swedish-language multidisciplinary university in Finland. Although most degree programmes are offered in Swedish a number of English-taught programmes are available at the master and doctoral level. ÅAU has an acknowledged position at the forefront of research in areas such as biosciences, computer science, democracy, human rights, material sciences, process chemistry and psychology. ÅAU provides a unique environment for research and education in the historical campus areas of Åbo (Turku in Finnish) and Vasa (Vaasa).
We offer our students an inspiring learning athmosphere with excellent infrastructure for students, with a low student-teacher ratio. Our international students benefit from personal contacts with their teachers and a good active student community. We offer a wide student support system including study counselling and for example language courses for international students. Out of 7000 students approximately 1000 are international students counting both degree and exchange students.
